Antimicrobial surfaces and packaging materials

Avoiding microorganism contamination during food processing, storage and distribution is one of the major challenges in the food industry, with considerable importance to public health. Current general approach for eradicating harmful microorganisms is mainly the use of biocides. However, there is a great concern about residues and massive biocides usage that encourages microorganisms' resistance. We developed "contact active" antimicrobial materials that demonstrated antimicrobial activity against various microorganisms, including multi-drug resistant pathogenic bacteria and stability at pHs and temperatures relevant to the food industry.

 

Innovation: Development of novel technology.

 

Implementation: Validation of new technology by the developers and others and implementation of the new technology under commercial conditions within a small scale (relative to the potential application scope) in Israel and/or elsewhere.
